Which Clique do MBTI Types Join in High School

Dozens of movies exist about cliques in high school, where the protagonist often has to choose which clique they want to enter, and then deal with the ramifications of being in that group (and then at the end of the movie, said protagonist conveniently eliminate cliques).

Well, here are the cliques that each MBTI type usually ends up joining.

ESFJ – The ESFJ often end up in the popular kids clique as they have very strong, well-developed Extraverted Feeling that can let them take over in high school easily. They control people’s opinions of them with an almost ruthless quality.

ENFJ – They also have strong extraverted feeling but because of their auxiliary introverted intuition which is still developing in their teenage years, they often have confusion with what’s “right”. Compared to the ESFJ, who draws models of what is “right” from where they grew up and society, the ENFJ try to create their own interpretations, which leads them to try blending in with others until they do. They don’t usually spread their wings until after college.

ENFP, ESFP – Their enthusiasm and willingness to experience new things can make them popular, but they may also get into trouble with “the man”. They can break into many cliques without a problem, and can often become a reporter-like gossip.

ESTP, ISTP – For the most part, they will be adventure-loving people that fit seamlessly within most cliques. They prefer cliques revolving around an interest that is physically-oriented like sports. They can end up very popular if they are interested in sports and join a team.

INFJ, INFP, ISFP – They will blend in with their environment after analyzing who is who. They won’t usually be the most popular to their dismay but they will be respected. They are also likely to end up keeping to themselves rather than joining any clique after rationalizing that they don’t care.

ISTJ, ESTJ – They are the goodie two-shoes who do the homework. You might see them joining the christian club or a club to boost their resume for college.

ISFJ – They will be more reserved in the beginning years of high school, attaching themselves to a few friends they feel are dependable. As they grow their auxiliary extraverted feeling in the later years of high school, they will develop people skills that would let them enter the popular clique, but as loyal friends, they usually stick to the ones who were there for them in the beginning.

ENTP – They can be seen as weirdos, depending on how they act. They will find people that hate them and won’t want to be seen with them but they will also find people that love them. If they manage to control their extroverted intuition to some extent, you can expect them to enter whichever clique they’d like. Otherwise, they may very well end up social outcasts.

ENTJ – They will likely get it all done. They will be fairly respected as they will typically have good grades and are involved in leadership for sports/activities. They’ll be seen as the golden boys/girls to the teachers while keeping their darker sides visible for only fellow students to see.

INTJ, INTP – They usually don’t join any cliques and keep to themselves. They may speak to a few people regularly and join cliques that have their primary interests in mind like chess club.
